Using AI to create learning content with medical students

'At the University of Cape Town (UCT), research conducted by the Digital Open Textbooks for Development (DOT4D) team in the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) has brought to light an innovative approach in medical education, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to empower students in creating open educational resources (OER).' (Passage taken from article published by UCT news).

In our study, we examined how ChatGPT can assist undergraduate medical students in co-creating chapters for an orthopaedics textbook alongside professionals. We believe in empowering students through autonomy and collaboration, fostering an open learning environment where they can innovate. By involving students as partners in content creation, we enhance material accessibility and ownership, motivating them to produce high-quality work. Our research underscores the transformative impact of student co-authorship, enriching both learning experiences and educational content.
